How to pick your first vibecoding project
Your first project teaches you the loop: describe, run, fix, repeat. Pick something that lets you complete that loop many times quickly.
What makes a good first project
- You would use it yourself.
- It does one thing.
- It needs no accounts, payments or other people’s data.
- You can finish a first version in a weekend.
Ideas that work
- A personal dashboard for something you track.
- A small tool that automates a chore.
- A single-page site for a hobby or a local group.
- A calculator or converter you keep wishing existed.
Ideas that stall
- Anything that needs thousands of users to be useful.
- Marketplaces and social networks.
- Apps that handle money or sensitive data.
- A rewrite of something huge.
Shrink it until it is boring
If your idea has more than one core feature, build the smallest one first. You can add the rest after you have something working.
Write it down as you go
Keep a short log: what you asked, what you got, what you changed. By the end of the weekend you will have a project and the story of how you made it.
Keep your own build log
Write numbered entries, follow other builders, and let people watch your idea become real.
