Ship your first AI-built app: a practical checklist

2026-10-03 · 5 min read

It works on your machine. That is not the same as being ready for other people. Use this checklist before you call it live.

Before you share it

  • Read the code that touches money, logins or personal data.
  • Remove any secrets from the repository and rotate any that leaked.
  • Test the main path with a fresh account.
  • Try bad input: empty fields, very long text, the wrong file type.

Make it recoverable

  • Keep it in version control.
  • Know how to roll back a bad deploy.
  • Back up anything users create.

Make it understandable

  • A short description of what it does.
  • A screenshot or a short video.
  • A way for people to tell you something is broken.

Move through the stages openly

Start as an idea, move to building, open a beta to a few people, then go live. Say so in your log at each step. Early users are more forgiving when they know where you are.

After launch

  • Write the launch entry and mark it as a milestone.
  • Watch what people actually do.
  • Fix the one thing that blocks most of them first.

Keep your own build log

Write numbered entries, follow other builders, and let people watch your idea become real.
