Seven build-in-public mistakes and how to avoid them
Sharing your work should help you, not drain you. These are the mistakes that make people quit or tune out.
1. Only posting wins
A feed of wins reads as marketing. The honest entries about what broke are the ones people remember.
2. Posting in bursts
Ten entries in a day and then silence for a month is hard to follow. Small and regular beats big and rare.
3. Being vague
“Made progress today” gives a reader nothing to react to. Say what changed.
4. Sharing secrets
Never post keys, tokens, customer details or private messages. Blur screenshots that show them.
5. Chasing numbers
Counts of followers and likes are a poor measure of whether the project is good. Pay attention to the people who reply with something useful.
6. Not replying
If someone takes the time to comment, answer. Conversations are the point.
7. Hiding the AI
Saying how AI helped is part of the story and often the most useful part for other people. There is nothing to hide.
Keep your own build log
Write numbered entries, follow other builders, and let people watch your idea become real.
