How to build a daily shipping habit with small entries
Big projects get finished by people who show up most days. A small daily habit beats an occasional heroic weekend.
Make the unit small
Decide that “shipped” today means one small, visible change. A fixed button counts. A new screen counts. Something you can point to.
Write one entry
At the end of the session, write two or three sentences about what changed. It takes a minute and builds a record you can be proud of.
Pick a time
Attach the habit to something you already do, like the first coffee or the end of the workday.
Do not break the chain twice
Missing one day is normal. Missing two makes it a different habit. If you slip, do the smallest possible version the next day.
Let the log show the streak
Consecutive weeks of entries are visible in a project’s log, which is its own motivation, and some boards on vibFolio rank projects by the longest unbroken log.
Rest on purpose
Plan a day off each week. A habit you can sustain is better than one that burns you out.
Keep your own build log
Write numbered entries, follow other builders, and let people watch your idea become real.
