Chatbot (Vercel template) Template

Chatbot, formerly called AI Chatbot, is Vercel's open-source template for building a chat application, licensed Apache 2.0. It is a Next.js App Router app built on the AI SDK, styled with shadcn/ui and Tailwind. Chat history and user data are saved in Postgres and files in Vercel Blob, sign-in uses Auth.js, and models are reached through Vercel's AI Gateway, configured in lib/ai/models.ts. The docs list generative interfaces, artifacts, running code snippets in the browser, file and image attachments, and letting users share a chat. The fastest start is the one-click deploy from the template page, which prompts you to create a database and a Blob store. To work locally, the README runs pnpm install, then pnpm db:migrate, then pnpm dev, after pulling the environment variables with vercel link and vercel env pull. We would start here when the product is itself a chat: a support assistant, a tutor, an internal helper. The auth, history and streaming are already done, so the work goes into what the assistant knows and does. A caution: it expects Vercel's stack around it, a Postgres database, a Blob store and AI Gateway. Off Vercel you have to set AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY yourself, and the README warns against committing your .env file, which holds keys to your AI and auth accounts.
