skill-creator is a skill Anthropic publishes in its anthropics/skills repository for making other skills. It walks through capturing what the new skill should do and when it should trigger, writes a SKILL.md with the name and description frontmatter, and then tests it: for each test prompt it runs one attempt with the skill and a baseline without it, drafts assertions, and opens a review page (eval-viewer/generate_review.py) so you can compare the outputs. A separate loop rewrites the skill's description against a set of should-trigger and should-not-trigger queries, holding 40 percent of them back to avoid overfitting. In Claude Code, the repository's README registers it as a plugin marketplace with /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills, then installs the example set with /plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skills. It is also listed in Anthropic's official plugin directory as skill-creator. After that you ask for it in plain words, for example "turn this workflow into a skill". We think it is worth reaching for once you notice yourself pasting the same instructions into Claude every few days. Turning that into a skill, with a few test prompts behind it, is exactly the job it is built for. One caution: the fuller half of the process depends on the environment. The SKILL.md says the description optimizer needs the claude -p command, which only Claude Code has, and that on Claude.ai, without subagents, the baseline comparisons and benchmarking are skipped. The repository also states its skills are provided for demonstration and educational purposes, so test what it produces before relying on it.
