frontend-design Skill
Anthropic's design skill for Claude: written guidance that steers new or reworked UI away from templated defaults, toward a deliberate palette, typography and layout chosen for the subject.
frontend-design is a skill from Anthropic that shapes how Claude designs interfaces. It is written guidance rather than code: ground the design in the product's own subject, choose typefaces deliberately and set a clear type scale, keep lines under about 80 characters, and use motion sparingly. It names the traits AI-generated pages tend to share, such as a cream background with a serif display and a terracotta accent, or content chopped into identical rounded cards, and asks Claude to plan a small token system, check that plan against the brief, then build and critique the result with screenshots. It lives in anthropics/skills and also ships as a plugin in Anthropic's official directory, installed in Claude Code with /plugin install frontend-design@claude-plugins-official. The plugin's README says Claude uses it automatically for frontend work, so a request like "build a landing page for an AI security startup" is enough. We would use it when starting a new page or reworking one that looks like every other generated site, and when you want Claude to commit to a visual direction instead of the average one. A caution: it is instructions and not a component library, so the output still needs a person's eye. It pushes toward distinctive choices, which is not always what an app with an existing design system wants; the skill itself says the brief's own words always win, so state your constraints in the prompt.
