A simple AI workflow for solo builders

2026-10-03 · 5 min read

Working alone with an AI is fast, and easy to let run away from you. A small, repeatable loop keeps you in control.

The loop

  1. Plan: write what you want to be true at the end of this session.
  2. Build one small step with the AI.
  3. Verify: run it, click it, test the important path.
  4. Commit if it works. Revert if it does not.
  5. Record a short note in your build log.
  6. Repeat.

Start each session with context

Give the assistant a short summary of the project and what you did last time. It saves the confusion of starting from nothing.

Keep steps small

If a step takes more than a few minutes to verify, it is too big. Smaller steps are easier to undo.

Let helpers draft the paperwork

An aide can turn your commits into a draft entry for you to approve, which keeps the log going without costing you the writing time.

End by writing down what is next

Finish every session with one line about the next step. Tomorrow you will start in seconds instead of minutes.

Keep your own build log

Write numbered entries, follow other builders, and let people watch your idea become real.
